The Traditional Classroom Environment

There are a wide variety of norms associated with traditional classrooms mostly oriented towards what the students are prohibited from doing in the classroom.

These may include:

Speaking without permission

Passing notes to other students during exams

Chewing gum, eating or drinking

Wearing hats or caps in the classroom (likely because this is considered to be disrespectful others)

Engaging in any activity other than paying attention to the teacher

Pros

1) Direct contact with the instructor and other students, which provides opportunities to ask questions to understand difficult lessons better

2) Being in an environment with different people can add character to your life and others

3) Being a people person and presenting your ideas in a class will allow a person to have more confidence when meeting with potential employers

4) Employers admire a person who goes above and beyond and acts as a go getter rather than a hermit behind a computer screen

5) The ability to broaden horizons is better on campus then online simply because there are extra curricular events and social interactions

6) The working environment consists of many different people; people with different cultures, beliefs, and traditions; to obtain education in a diverse environment prior to employment makes a person more accepting and used to the fact that everyone is their own person and people are different

8) Breaking rules and commitments can end up a waste of time for both the student and faculty

9) Being late for class can become an issue and affect grades

The final decision, whether to take the course online or in person in classroom setting is up to the student. Before, committing yourself to anything in life especially education-wise you should always do the research and know your own limit.
