A Brand New Era for Medical Billers
The economy is never static and new jobs are constantly created including those that sprang up
with the inception of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). With the new US
President Obama at the helm with plans to reform health care and health insurance regulations to stimulate the
economy many predict that more jobs in various medical fields and different health care industries will spring up
from coast to coast.
Careers Related to Medical Billing
Interestingly, an American Hospital Association (AHA) survey in 2007-2008 showed that about
18% of medical billing and coding positions remain unfilled due to a lack of qualified candidates. Imagine!!!! As
the national unemployment rate rose in those years many medical billing positions remained unfilled due to the lack
of qualified applicants. And the chaveat of this was that for every percentage-point increase in the unemployment
rate there were 1.1 million more people are uninsured. As in any career, a successful future means a firm
commitment to continuing education and self improvement; both are very important to remain employabke, competitive
and reach higher goals.
