Job Expectations and Qualifications

It s not enough just to have all the right intentions; an employer needs to know what you are able to give to the job and the business.

Some bosses expect their medical billers to research State laws to use that info to appeal denied claims. Others expect medical coding knowledge to process their outpatient medical care claims. Some need medical coders that are able to perform an audit on each claim, and deal with health insurance companies when they deny payment, or pay less than what they are supposed to pay.

Why Employers Want Experience

If you had no training, or experience and you wanted to build houses, do you think a construction manager will hire you?  If you had no training or experience and you wanted to be a French Chef, would the number one French Restaurant in Paris hire you? If you wanted to be a nurse and take care of sick people, would a hospital hire you if you had no training, or experience?  Likely not. Being a coder or medical biller demands the same respect.

Most employers want one year of experience, a working knowledge of various billing guidelines, a familiarity with medical coding and medical terminology. To be considered these skills must be documented in your application and resume.
